Green space is just as easy to find, with Poole Park and its boating lake close to the centre, Upton Country Park’s parkland and gardens on the harbour’s edge, and miles of walking, running and cycling routes along the seafront and out towards the Purbecks.

The town is best known for its two selective grammar schools: Parkstone Grammar School, an 11–18 girls’ school, and Poole Grammar School for boys, both consistently popular and heavily oversubscribed, with entry via the shared BCP consortium 11+ entrance test. For non-selective secondary education, Poole High School, Ashdown Technology College and Magna Academy all serve the area, giving parents plenty of options depending on where you settle.

At primary level, Poole has a wide spread of well-rated schools across neighbourhoods like Canford Heath, Broadstone, Parkstone, Oakdale and Hamworthy, so most family homes sit within reach of a good local option. Local bus services (operated by Morebus) link the town centre, surrounding neighbourhoods and nearby Bournemouth, so getting around without a car is straightforward.

By road, the A35 and A350 connect Poole to the wider region, joining the A31 and M27 for routes towards Southampton, the New Forest and the national motorway network. For travel further afield, Bournemouth Airport is a short drive away, and Poole is also a working ferry port; Brittany Ferries and Condor Ferries sail from Poole Harbour to the Channel Islands and France, while the Sandbanks chain ferry offers a quick crossing to Studland and the Isle of Purbeck.

For everyday journeys, Poole is also very walkable and cycle-friendly, with the Quay, town centre and seafront all easily reached on foot or by bike.

Sam showed me around the property, which turned out to be unsuitable for me. However, Sam came across as professional and knowledgeable.
