Average sold prices, the kind of home you can expect and the stamp duty bill, in three of the areas we cover.
£350,000 is close to the typical price of a home across Poole and Bournemouth, but what it gets you changes a lot from one neighbourhood to the next. A few miles can be the difference between a three-bed semi with a garden and a smaller terraced house, or between a short walk to a high street and a short walk to the forest.
We’ve looked at the latest Land Registry sold prices on Rightmove for three areas we know well: Winton in Bournemouth, Canford Heath in Poole, and Verwood, which our team now covers too. Here’s what a £350,000 budget looks like in each.
Winton: a three-bed semi near the high street
Homes in Winton sold for an average of £342,361 over the last year, about 2% below the 2022 peak. Semi-detached homes averaged £346,305, so £350,000 puts a typical semi well within reach. Detached homes averaged £417,775, and flats £199,557.
Recent sales show the range. A three-bed semi on Firbank Road sold for £350,000 in March, and a two-bed semi on Malvern Road went for £325,000. Most three-bed detached homes sold in the spring went for around £395,000 to £445,000, so a detached house would mean stretching the budget.
What you get with Winton is location. You’re close to Wimborne Road’s shops, cafés and restaurants, with good bus links into Bournemouth town centre and the beach a short trip away. Many homes are Edwardian and 1930s, with good-sized rooms and character features.
Canford Heath: a family semi, or a three-bed detached at a stretch
Canford Heath averaged £324,231 over the last year, flat on the year before and about 3% below its 2022 peak. Semi-detached homes averaged £328,791 and terraced homes £267,061, so a £350,000 budget comfortably covers most semis here, with some left over.
Buyers who can go a little further have options. Three-bed detached homes on Hasler Road and Chaldon Road both sold for around £370,000 in July, and a three-bed semi on Carpenter Close sold for £340,000 in June. Detached homes averaged £421,350, though, so £350,000 won’t usually stretch to a larger detached house.
Canford Heath was largely built from the 1970s onwards, so homes tend to be practical, with driveways, gardens and modern layouts. It’s popular with families because of its schools and green space, with protected heathland right on the doorstep.
Verwood: a terraced or semi-detached home on the edge of the forest
Verwood is the priciest of the three, with an average of £411,985 over the last year. That’s up 1% on the year before and about 2% below the 2023 peak. Much of that is because most homes in Verwood are detached, averaging £488,082.
At £350,000 you’re looking at the town’s semis (average £345,619) and its larger terraced homes (average £267,104). A three-bed terraced house on Chiltern Drive sold for £323,000 in June, and a semi on Hainault Drive went for £375,000. There are some smaller detached homes around this price too: a two-bed detached on The Chase sold for £380,000 in May.
What Verwood offers is space and quiet. Moors Valley Country Park and Ringwood Forest are close by, the town centre has everything for day-to-day life, and Ringwood, Ferndown and Wimborne are all a short drive away.

Don’t forget the costs on top
Stamp duty is the biggest extra cost for most buyers. On a £350,000 home, someone moving home in England pays £7,500, and a first-time buyer pays £2,500 because of first-time buyer relief. If you’re buying an additional property, the bill is higher. You can work out your own figure on our stamp duty guide.
Allow for a survey, legal fees and moving costs too, and speak to a mortgage adviser early so you know what you can borrow before you start viewing. If you’re selling to buy, our guide to selling costs helps you work out what you’ll have left after the sale. Answers to other common questions are on our FAQs page.
